I
was assistant director on A Roman Actor, under
the guidance of Ken McClellan, it was a happy
production for me with many great cast members
and I enjoyed being around and hopefully sensitively
making suggestions where appropriate.
The Tabard Theatre was a lovely space in
a nice part of Wimbledon, a perfect place to
be in the summer months.
When
researching this I was sad to hear than Ken
had died in 2004. The company Sharers and Hirelings
had changed to Logos
Theatre Company since A Roman Actor and
many productions had followed.
Ken
had chosen A Roman Actor partly because of his
love for it and in part because Michael
Billington had put it on his top plays to
see. Ken hoped that Michael Billington would
attend and review, I don't know if this worked,
I don't remember a review in the Guardian.
